Connex, an American oil giant, is preparing to merge with Killen, a small company that has obtained oil mining rights in Kazakhstan, and is putting pressure on Nasir (Alexander Siddig), a young prince of a Gulf oil country, for the mining rights. Brian Woodman (Matt Damon), a researcher at an energy consulting company in Geneva, Switzerland, attended Prince Nasir's party at the Marbella Palace in Spain on behalf of the company, and later became Prince Nasir's economic adviser.
