Margaret (Daniela Denby-Ashe), who grew up in the idyllic scenery of southern England, quit her job as a pastor, and the family moved to the completely unfamiliar northern town of Milton. Unlike the warmth and comfort of the south, Milton during the Industrial Revolution was cold and dirty. There were no more fragrant flowers and plants on the road, but rude workers and textile workshops with flying cotton. In addition to the inadaptability to the new environment, there was also the domineering and harsh treatment of workers by the young industrialist John Thornton (Richard Armitage), the owner of the textile factory, which made Margaret's first impression of Thornton extremely bad.
