The brothers of the Hatakeyama family, Nobutsuna (played by Hiroyuki Ikeuchi) and Naomitsu (played by Shun Oguri), have a deep relationship since childhood. Naomitsu also has a mutual affection for Akoji (played by Yuki Shibamoto), the daughter of the Grand Councillor's family. One year, the Grand Councillor's family died of illness, leaving only Akoji. The general ordered that if any of the brothers of the Hatakeyama family could marry Akoji, they would inherit all of the Grand Councillor's property. In his childhood, Naomitsu took the thief Sakuramaru (played by Kei Tanaka) as his subordinate. Sakuramaru made trouble and caused the brothers Nobutsuna and Naomitsu to fight each other. Naomitsu snatched Akoji away in the chaos, and was plotted against by Sakuramaru again on the way to escape. Later, he met the thief Tajomaru (played by Hiroki Matsukata). After a fierce fight, Tajomaru died at the hands of Naomitsu, but left his name to the other party. From then on, the elegant young man turned into a notorious thief... The protagonist of this film, Tajomaru, is based on the short story "藪の中" by the writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa, which was adapted into the classic masterpiece "Rashomon" by Akira Kurosawa.
