Wesley (Powers Boothe) is a detective. Recently, he is investigating a vicious serial murder case called "God's Hand". A mysterious man named Fenton (Matthew McConaughey) found Wesley and told him that he knew the whole story of the case. What shocked Wesley was that if the facts were really as Fenton said, then the murderer was none other than Fenton's brother Adam (Jeremy Sumpter), who had committed suicide. Wesley followed Fenton to Adam's grave, where Fenton told Wesley about his past with Adam. It turned out that all the events originated from the brothers' father, Max (Bill Paxton), who told the two brothers that he had met an angel. The angel gave him a list of demons incarnated as humans, and what Max had to do was to kill them one by one. Adam believed his father's words, but Fenton saw the madness in them, and their destinies took completely different paths from then on.
