12-year-old Josh (Tom Hanks) seems to have some problems with his age: he is too short to ride the roller coaster, too young to chase the girl he likes... So he throws 25 cents into an old wishing machine in the playground and wishes to become an adult. Unexpectedly, when he wakes up the next day, Josh finds that he has grown up nearly 20 years overnight. Now he is an out-and-out adult. Even his mother thinks he is a stranger who kidnapped her son and kicks him out. Josh has to make a living on his own and finds a job in a toy company.
