"Kangxi's Secret Visits 2" follows the style of the new-style ancient costume light comedy that uses the past to satirize the present and criticize the current ills. It is divided into three unit stories: "Mantou Ji", "Guiyuan Ji" and "Xiapei Ji". "Mantou Ji" tells the story of Kangxi's 50th year, when Kangxi (played by Zhang Guoli) was deceived by local tyrants into working hard in the gold mine while on a secret visit; "Guiyuan Ji" takes place in Kangxi's 51st year, when Kangxi was ill, and Concubine Yi (played by Deng Jie) asked Sandezi (played by Wu Jun) to ask the imperial physician to treat him, but his condition worsened. It turned out that it was all fake medicine. After Kangxi recovered, he left the palace and severely punished the lawless; "Xiapei Ji" tells the story of Kangxi's 52nd year, when Kangxi killed his relatives for the sake of justice and rectified nepotism. The classic ancient costume TV series "Kangxi's Secret Visits" has produced five works from 1997 to 2007. These five works have continued the style of the series, depicting Kangxi's approachable character in his incognito visits, and his powerful side in punishing corrupt officials. The first four parts of the series were directed and acted by Zhang Guoli, and the fifth part was directed by Sun Shupei.
