Henry Selick, director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline, is about to break with his stop-motion animation routine with a live-action film, A Tale Dark & Grimm. The film is based on the children's novel of the same name by Adam Gidwitz, the first in a trilogy that tells the story of two siblings who hope to escape the dark fairy tale world and find happiness again. Hansel and Gretel step out of their own world and enter eight terrifying fairy tales, all of which are based on classic Grimm fairy tales. They encounter obstacles such as wizards, sorcerers, dragons and demons along the way. As the siblings roam the forest and deal with countless threatening opponents, they gradually learn the true story behind the famous legends and how to take responsibility for their own destiny and create their own happiness. Selick's live-action film will be written by John W. Mann and Jon Gunn, the latter of whom just wrote the screenplay for DreamWorks Animation's 2015 new film Paranormal Research Center, which stars the voices of Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy and others. I have to say that this dark fairy tale sounds so suitable for Henry Selick. However, I believe many fans must hope that this new film is still a stop-motion animation, because this story sounds so suitable for presenting with his unique animation style. However, it is also exciting to see what wonderful chemical effects Selick can create in the real-life world after breaking away from his usual stop-motion animation world.
