Rookies' Diary is the sequel to Rookies' Diary. It is a 2011 Taiwanese idol drama produced and broadcast by FTV with the assistance of the Ministry of National Defense. The drama started filming in April 2011 and premiered on April 22, 2011. It was filmed and broadcasted simultaneously. With the high ratings of Rookies' Diary, FTV decided to start filming the sequel to Rookies in December 2010. The title of the drama is tentatively named Rookies' Diary 2 and it is scheduled to start filming in March 2011 and will be broadcasted after Rookies' Diary. Since the main actors of Rookies' Diary will star in FTV's spare dramas Father and Son and Integrity Heroes, they cannot continue to play the role. Therefore, the production unit recruited new actors to join. Originally, Ren Rongxuan was intended to play the leading role, but Ren's father did not want his daughter to take risks, so he decided to quit the role. Due to the change in the female lead and the news that the Ministry of National Defense was unwilling to support the filming of "Diary of a Rookie Soldier 2", the filming of "Diary of a Rookie Soldier 2", which was originally scheduled to start in March, was postponed to April. The role of the female lead was still played by Liu Xiangci, and "Diary of a Rookie Soldier 2" was officially named "Diary of a Rookie Soldier: Special Warfare Heroes".
