Adapted from the novel of the same name by Scott Durow, the series tells the story of Rusty Sabich (Gyllenhaal), one of the prosecutors, who becomes a suspect after a horrific murder in the Chicago prosecutor's office. As the defendant struggles to maintain his family and marriage, it explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limitations of love. Negga plays Rusty's wife Barbara, an artist, gallery owner, and mother whose life is overturned after her husband is accused of murdering his mistress. While dealing with a broken heart and a broken marriage, she also fights for her family and struggles with her husband's well-publicized trial.
