At the central station in Rio de Janeiro, Dora (Fernanda Montenegro) helps people write letters. But she will tear up all the letters that she doesn't like and not send them, and even read the contents of the letters publicly for fun. Dora lives in poverty and is not married at an advanced age. Perhaps in her heart, the true feelings between people are not trustworthy at all. The appearance of the little boy Joshua (Vinícius de Oliveira) makes her start a journey to re-understand her life - Joshua wants to see his father who he has never met in the distance, and keeps writing letters to him. The boy's mother's accidental car accident makes Dora decide to accompany Joshua to the northeast to find his father. In Joshua's eyes, even though his father is a stranger, he always talks about his father proudly. And Dora also has a painful past with her father. In the process of Joshua's search for his father, Dora's heart, which was frozen by the past, slowly warms up.
