This film is based on a true story in the Korean War. In August 1950, the North Korean People's Army captured Seoul and marched south. South Korea recruited students to join the army and formed the "Apprentice Volunteer Army" to resist tenaciously. The unit where the apprentice Wu Zhangfan (played by Cui Shengxian/TOP) was located was repeatedly repelled by the People's Army. In order to replenish the troops, dozens of apprentices joined the battle sequence, including the bad student Jia Zhao (played by Quan Xiangyu) whose parents were killed by the People's Army. These apprentices formed a 71-man team, led by Wu Zhangfan as the captain to defend Pohang, while the South Korean troops moved to the last line of defense before Busan-Nakdong River. The lonely apprentice team deployed in an abandoned school. What they are about to face is the elite 766th unit of the North Korean People's Army.
