This film is adapted from the work of American writer Lois Lowry. The protagonist is a teenager named Jonas who lives in a seemingly perfect community, without war, disaster or pain. Here, people's lives are arranged in an orderly manner. They don't have to decide on work or spouse. Everything has been decided by the community leaders. However, there is no memory, emotion, color or music in this world, and people have no power to choose. When he turned twelve, the teenager Jonas (played by Brenton Thwaites) was selected as the next memory transmitter and received training from the previous transmitter (played by Jeff Bridges). In the future, he will bear the memory that the entire society should have. He must bear the pain, fear and loneliness alone, but also know what warmth, happiness and love are, and thus gain experience that he has never had before. And the more he knows, the more he finds the falseness of this world, so he has the idea of leaving.
