Li Zhentai (played by Zhang Dongjian) is a shoemaker living in Seoul. The family's livelihood is maintained by the cost of repairing shoes. Although the material is not rich, this is a very warm and complete family. His wife Li Yingshun (played by Li Enzhu) and his mother run a noodle shop. On weekdays, they have to take care of their younger brothers and sisters. His younger brother Li Zhenxi (played by Yuan Bin) is all the hope of the family. Now he is studying in high school. It is his dream to be admitted to university, and it is also the sustenance of his brother Zhentai. However, with the sudden outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, the peaceful life was soon disrupted. The war spread to Seoul, and Zhentai decided to take his family to Daegu to live and avoid the war. But on the way, they were forcibly conscripted into the army and put on the train bound for the front line of the Nakdong River. From then on, the family was torn apart. On the battlefield, Zhentai had only one wish left: to protect his brother with his life at all costs. When he heard that he could exempt his brother from military service as long as he won the national medal, he rushed to the forefront of the battle like a madman. However, the cruel battlefield and the fate of people inevitably changed their life trajectories.
